Explore Meteora, one of the most unique sights in Greece, a rock formation in central Greece hosting a number of monasteries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At Meteora, you can explore the area in one day, visit the 6 monasteries, and relax in spectacular scenery. Its unique geographic location and its position close to the city of Kalabaka in combination with its magnificent and breathtaking presence makes it an absolute masterpiece that attracts every traveler's interest. The monasteries were built between the 14th and 19th centuries, their location was chosen carefully so that the monks could be as close as possible to God. This tour is highly recommended and the drive from Athens is about four hours long.

The tour starts from Athens where we pick you up from your hotel or designated destination and our first stop will be at Thermopylae where the most epic battle in world history took place. In that area, 300 Spartans together with a few thousand other hoplites faced the huge Persian army in 480 BC. You will have the opportunity to see the statue of mighty King Leonidas and walk in the battlefield.

Then we will head to Meteora, a UNESCO world heritage site where you will have time to visit 2-3 monasteries. These rocks were created 60 million years ago in the Tertiary period. From 24 monasteries of Meteora, today only 6 are operating, every day.

The Great Meteoron which is the largest and oldest and serves as the main museum for visitors, the monastery of Varlaam is the second biggest with astonishing views, the monasteries of Rousanou/St. Barbara, St. Nicholas, St. Stephen are adorned with amazing wall paintings made by the teacher of El Greco and the monastery of Holy Trinity, where a scene from the James Bond movie "For your eyes only" was filmed. Every day one of the monasteries is closed.

Finally our driver will transfer you back to the picturesque village of Kastaki for lunch and Kalambaka city for shopping before returning back to Athens.
